Buffett announced that he would like to give more than 80 percent of his wealth to charitable foundations. In 2020, he increased the amount to 99 percent. The principal beneficiary was the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation that was established by Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his then wife Melinda. The foundation was concentrated on global issues such as education and health; Bill and Buffett were in close bond since the 1990s. The other organizations receiving donations included those run by Buffett's children and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, named after his wife who passed away, which was focused on women's reproductive rights and supported college scholarships. In 2010 Buffett and Gates Gateses created the Giving Pledge, an invitation for wealthy individuals to donate the majority of their fortunes to charities.
